| General Guidance Notes |
| |
| | The aim of these tests is to help students study and revise for Progress Tests, Selection Tests, GCSE Exams and other tests by providing typical questions and giving marks and hints by feedback. It provides the opportunity for gaining experience in sitting an actual exam and of identifying areas for further study. All marking and feedback is generated by our computer database. | |
| |
| | Parent(s) or an adult/teacher may become members and enrol students as part of their examination preparation study. | |
| |
| | The questions provided are based on typical past paper questions and examples however no question appearing in the Online Test Service is identical to any past paper question or previously published question as far as we are aware | |
| |
| | Parents and students should note that although past exam questions play an important part in the revision process, taking a practice exam too early can be disheartening if the student has not studied the topics and mastered the concepts. | |
| |
| | Parents should discuss with the student the reasons for taking the tests and explain that some questions may be difficult. | |
| |
| | When a student chooses a test type (for example GCSE Intermediate Non-Calculator) the program compiles the test by selecting questions from a database. The number of questions in the database exceeds the number of questions in the test. | |
| |
| | If a student were to select the same test type on a different occasion the programme would compile either (A) a similar, but not identical, test by selecting questions from the database (the 'Generate a unique test' option) or (B) an identical test if the option to take a previously saved test is chosen. The option to take identical tests will be of use to teachers who wish a group of students to be presented with exactly the same paper. | |
| |
| | All tests are timed and target times given but there is no minimum or maximum time allowed to complete a test. | |
| |
| | Pupils may pause a test at any time and return to it later so as to fit in with normal class or home routines and the total 'on-test' time will be recorded. | |
