Maths Level 4-6 Test Guidance Notes

Guidance Notes for Using and Interpreting the Maths Level 4-6 Online Test Service

Before attempting a Level 4-6 test paper online, you should read these notes to assist you in completing the test and interpreting your result.

The Level 4-6 practice tests on our database have been devised to a similar standard of complexity and level to a typical Level 4-6 test. They are a useful indication of skill levels typical of pupils in school years 6 and 7.

In an actual school test, or exam such as SATs, you may be required to write your answer in a box and advised to show working out. You may be given marks for working out. In the Online Test Service marks are awarded only for correct answers.

The purpose of these online tests:

  • To allow students to practise questions of a similar level in order to improve their grade potential for an actual exam.

  • Students receive computer-generated hints/tips for those questions not answered correctly.

  • Students gain an idea of their percentage score and this can also be used for the purpose of monitoring their own progress if they re-take a similar test.

  • The online test is marked immediately and your feedback is returned quickly.

  • As a useful check-up on Level 4-6 maths.

To maximise learning from the Online Test Service:

  • Do use pencil and paper to assist you with finding the correct answer. Do keep this 'working out' for future reference, numbering your paper where appropriate.

  • Do remember the differences between the Online Test Service and a 'real' exam.

  • Do regard the Online Test Service as only part of your exam preparation.

  Good luck with your questions!
